Ok so if you haven’t heard of balayage then you may have had your hair under a rock… Over the last few years it’s become increasingly popular, it was developed by Parisian colourists in the 70’s. They simply couldn’t keep up with the demand of traditional highlighting and started to freehand the colour. Balayage translates ‘to sweep’ in French. Colour is applied to the hair using a backing board and much less uniform than foiling.
There’s a huge celebrity following of balayage, Jessica Alba, Rosie Huntington, Chrissy Teigan, Jennifer Lopez… (I could carry on) which then obviously follows through to the salons and on to you lovely people.
Balayage is versatile, it’s up to your Hair Colourist to bespoke your balayage to suit you. This technique can be done on virtually any hair colour, type and texture. It’s much more gentle than traditional foiling and you can go way longer between colours. (Great for your purse, not so much for us)
Depending on desired looks sometimes balayage requires more than one sitting, your colourist will explain that you need to build it up especially when colouring over older dyes. We often recommend a salon visit between balayage sittings to have a toner which will keep your colour looking super fresh and often a silver shampoo to keep your tones cool.
We love balayage, we were one of the first salons in the City to embrace the technique, it’s no fad, it’s undoubtedly here to stay…
